Motor Control Center Replacement

A major Midwestern plant selected Valdes Engineering Company to design and manage the replacement of two main motor control centers in the production unit. The existing motor control centers were over 35 years old and suffered from increasing component failures, impacting the production and profitability of the process units. The motor control centers were completely replaced. A high resistance grounding system was installed with each new motor control center to further enhance reliability. Since the replacement required a complete unit power outage, a temporary power scheme utilizing portable generators was developed and implemented to power essential services and to allow product loading and shipping to continue during construction.
