Specialty Chemical P&ID Updates
One of the worlds largest Ink and Coatings Manufacturers selected Valdes Engineering Company to create and update Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) for one of their Midwestern plants. Proposed plant upgrades were
going to push the flammable solvent storage levels that would trigger OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements (OSHA 1910).
Valdes performed field walkdowns of all processing equipment, piping and tanks containing flammable or hazardous chemicals. The Valdes team utilized field walk-downs to "as-build" the process, including equipment, piping, valves, instrumentation, control logic, and materials of construction. Existing equipment documentation was also used when available as input to the P&IDs. The walkdown sketches were converted into finished CAD drawings. PFDs were created for key processing systems.
In support of the Client's tight schedule, the drawings were prepared, reviewed and issued in phases. The client was able to use completed P&IDs for hazard analysis while other process sections were being walked down and drafted. Over 100 new P&ID drawings and over 25 new PFDs were created.
